RSS feeds are still a thing! I like to keep it simple so I use android app Feeder which is available on F-Droid and Play store. I have a mix of feeds from local news sources and a few favorite sources for national and world news. This reader doesn’t sync but it can import and export opml. I really like how it parses html and displays the full article within the app in a consistent and easy to read format without distractions.
Since I use LineageOS for microG I needed a replacement for the Google Find My Device service. I have found a nifty way to send my phone’s location to my PC without using a cloud based service. I use the open source android app GPSLogger to log the GPS coordinates at specified intervals to a file on my phone. I sync this file to my PC using the open source tool Syncthing which I also use for syncing my photos and my passwords from my password manager between devices.
